Monday Moral Dilemma Devotional #4
This is another in our series of moral dilemma’s to help your family talk about demonstrating their faith in everyday circumstances.
Jacob was worried about passing his math test. He was half way done and it was much harder than he expected.
He got up to sharpen his pencil. The pencil sharpener was right next to his teacher’s desk. He noticed that there was an answer key sitting right on top of a stack of her papers.
Noticing that the teacher was distracted, Jacob grabbed the answer key and brought it with him back to his desk.
Looking up, Jacob saw that the entire class was focused on taking their own tests.
Everyone except for Duncan who was staring at Jacob with a shocked look on his face. Duncan was the class bully. He was mean, merciless, and not a good mathematician. He was also in the desk right next to Jacob.
As Jacob sat back down in his chair, Duncan held out his hand as if to demand Jacob hand over the answer key. Without a hesitation, Jacob handed the answer key to Duncan.
Just then the teacher noticed that her answer key was missing from her desk.
“Everyone put down your pencils and look at me.” She walked around the room checking every desk until she discovered the answer key on Duncan’s desk. “Duncan! You stole the answer key!” she exclaimed.
Duncan was about to be in huge trouble.
What do you think Duncan is feeling?
What do you think Jacob is feeling?
What do you think Duncan will be tempted to do? What are his choices?
What do you think Jacob will be tempted to do? What are his choices?
What do you think Duncan should do?
What do you think Jacob should do?
Consider this verse and how it might apply to this situation.
Proverbs 10:9 “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”
